A temple with a figure of a serpent with an elephant trunk, at Ratchaphon Ngoen Temple on the Mekong River, Ban Phon Phaeng, Rattanawapi District, has two unusual serpent statues that have never been found anywhere else. The other elephant-like tusk was a typical serpent, but with a long red beard and a large red crest, it looked very majestic. The history of the creation of these two serpents indicates that once the Lord Buddha visited the area of Wat Phonsan, Lao PDR, while the Lord Buddha served food at the temple, the two serpents were on the opposite side (Wat Ratchaphon Ngoen Now) listening to the dharma of the Buddha until he attained the dharma. The two Nagas asked the Lord Buddha to place his footprint in the area at Wat Phrabat Phonsan, Lao PDR as well. The two Naga statues on the right side are named Hatthina Naga, with tusks and elephant-like ears but the body is a Naga, and the left side is named Raja Naga. The two Naga statues facing the Buddha's residence at Phonsan Temple, Lao PDR, are traditionally beautiful and have a peaceful atmosphere. The two serpent statues are the UNSEEN of Nong Khai province that have never been seen anywhere before. If you come in contact with Wat Ratchaphon Ngoen, you will immediately know that this place is sacred and we should preserve both the art, architecture and way of life here. Moreover, this temple is another important place to watch the Naga fireballs every year.
